Serve the Liturgy

  • The Flowers and Liturgical Decorations Committee at St. Anthony is made up of a few year-long members, as well a group which helps for major projects. We ensure the altar is adorned with flowers and the church is decorated throughout the liturgical seasons.  Altar flower displays are created from our inventory and changed frequently. Christmas and Easter decorations are planned ahead and accomplished by a larger group. We also remove flowers for Lent and prepare for Holy Week.

    Be a part of making St. Anthony a beautiful place to worship! No flower arranging experience is necessary – we work as a group and share our talents.

  • St. Anthony’s Choir sings for all 10:30 Sunday Masses as well as other Holy Days throughout the year.  Rehearsals are held the first Thursday of each month and prior to the 10:30 Mass.  We are always looking to add to our numbers and are especially in need of male singers!  Contact Tammy McCallum at 540-424-0404 or etmccallum@aol.com.

  • St. Anthony’s Traditional Latin Choir sings for the Sunday 1:00 pm High Mass, Holy Days of Obligation and many feast days throughout the year.  We have many choir members and 3 different choirs who all sing for the Traditional Latin Mass.  The children’s choir sings with the advanced choir on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.  On the 2nd and 4th Sundays, the men’s schola joins the advanced choir to harmonize 4 part hymns and some polyphony.  All choir members learn Gregorian chant which include various Mass settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and the Credo, as well as ancient hymns.  The older girls and men’s schola chant the Mass propers for each Mass.  While Latin hymns are required during Mass, we also sing classic English hymns for the processional and recessional.  The congregation is encouraged to join in singing the Mass parts and English hymns.   • Our parish ushers serve all the masses and special events such as First Holy Communion, Confirmation, etc.  You may primarily think of us as the “guys who take up collection”. The men who are ushers tend to serve at the mass that they normally attend. In addition to taking up collection, we also greet and assist parishioners as needed, maintain a headcount and facilitate an orderly mass.  Finally, we distribute the bulletins as you exit the church.     The essential requirement is that one has integrated Eucharistic Adoration into one’s life. For membership in the Sodality one would be committed to keeping watch with Our Lord for at least 30-minute periods with a certain regularity and deliberateness, not necessarily weekly.

    PRIVATE INTENTION FOR INCREASED NUMBERS

    The member will keep in his heart the private prayer intention: “That more parishioners are given the grace to be present at Eucharistic Adoration.”

    AWARENESS OF BEING A MEMBER OF A HOLY MOVEMENT

    The member is conscious of being part of something bigger than one’s private devotion. He is part of the pious association we are calling the “The Eucharistic Adoration Sodality.” By thus spiritually associating with others more graces will be won for the Member and for our parish.

    ROSTER

    The parish will keep a roster of the members which could be used for occasional communications with the Sodality members and prayer requests.

  • The Sunday 11 am mass choir at St. Elizabeth’s is a Latin Novus Ordo Choir. We sing hymns using the St Michael Hymnal as well as drawing hymns and chants from our rich tradition of Gregorian chant hymns.

Serve the Parish Community

  • The Confraternity of Christian Mothers was started in Lille, France, in 1850 by a group of mothers who were very concerned about the welfare and sanctity of their souls and their children’s souls in those tumultuous times.  The goal of this Confraternity is not simply to unite mothers in prayer, but also to support, guide and inspire mothers in performing their duties and practicing virtue.

    Over the years, various Popes have granted many spiritual benefits to members of the Confraternity.  In addition to gaining plenary indulgences on certain feast days of the year, a mother can also gain partial indulgences any time she teaches, disciplines or helps her children or others; this means that you can shorten your purgatory time now!

    In return for all these benefits, a mother only needs to pray the short Confraternity prayer for children and one Hail Mary for her pastor every day.  Also on the first Sunday of each month, we offer up our Mass and Holy Communion for all the members.  A member should also raise her children in accord with the Catholic principles of the Gospel.  All mothers share in the collective prayers and good works of every member of the Confraternity worldwide and are under the special protection of Our Lady of Sorrows.

    We have had a chapter of the Confraternity here at St Anthony’s for the past nine years where we pray for and support each other in the raising of our children.  Periodically we have a Mother’s Tea and one of our priests gives a talk.  All married women, with or without children, may join.  Currently we have 82 members.  If you would like more information on the Confraternity, please contact Becky Ciresi at bciresi@aol.com or 540-972-5932.

  • ElizAnt Ladies is for all parish ladies over the age of 21. We plan and help with events to grow in faith, fellowship, support and fun! Some examples of our events over the last three years are Bible studies, Lent Morning of Reflection, Advent Cookie Exchange, Country Christmas craft day, Rosary making, Sip and Paint, Jesse Tree project, Sipping with the Saints at local wineries and breweries, and many more to come. We also host Lent Soup Suppers, breakfast for the March for Life, as well as help with the Barrel Blessing and raising money for youth events and Workcamp.

  • The unexpected often happens and we want to help those in their time of sorrow.  Our Funeral Reception Committee arranges a reception at the grieving family’s request.  Each reception and family is different so the requirements will vary.  Most tasks include setup tables and chairs, cleanup afterwards, and donating a side dish or dessert.   • Do you have a green thumb and enjoy seeing the fruits of your labor? Our Parish Gardens at both churches require occasional TLC. Weeding, pruning, and trimming are some of the tasks that are required to keep our grounds looking heavenly!

  • Our Mission is to provide a Catholic teaching environment rich in faith and support for the Catholic homeschooling families of our parish.
    We consist of both a Catholic Homeschool Co-op (which meets once a week for classes for Kindergarten through High School with a Preschool for younger siblings) and a Social Group (which includes field trips, events, and service projects).  We have chosen this Catholic Homeschooling lifestyle to remain close to our faith and keep our children close to their faith while they share their time with their peers of the same faith and values.

  • Founded on the principles of charity, unity and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT., and a group of parishioners. Their intent was to provide financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families, especially the widowed and orphaned.  Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council #7812 portends to be the “strong right arm” of our two churches.  Consistently living out our principles of faith, family, community, and the right to life – if there’s a parish need, you will probably see our Knights involved.  Over the past year, we have:

    • Raised $1,040 to renew the insurance policy for the ultrasound machine at Choices Pregnancy Center

    • Provided financial support to two seminarians in our Diocese 

    • Led volunteers at the Food Pantry, distributing over 65,000 lbs. of food to the needy in our community

    • Supported the Fredericksburg Food Bank by delivering food monthly to the needy in King George 

    • Donated 60 coats to needy children in the King George County Schools

    • Supported our Parish youth attending Work Camp

    • Conducted marshaling duties at both the National March for Life and the Virginia March for Life

    • Donated hundreds of dollars in support of the intellectually disabled and those in need throughout the state of Virginia

    • Provided “muscle” for many Parish and community events including the KG Fall Festival, Blessing of the Barrels, Christmas decorations and the Nativity Scene at St Anthony, and assisting fellow parishioners .

  • The Legion of Mary is a Catholic lay organization with over 10 million Active and Auxiliary (praying) members worldwide to-date. The primary purpose of the Legion of Mary is to lead people to Jesus Christ, so they can benefit from His love and mercy. Specifically, the Active Legionary seeks to lead the people we encounter in our works to a greater knowledge of and faith in God and to increase the holiness of our own members through prayer and service. 

    Under the guidance of a priest as Spiritual Director, active members of a Legion group, or Praesidium meet weekly. Often working in pairs, members perform at least 2 hours of apostolic works of mercy such as visiting the sick, the shut-in or homebound, nursing homes, instruct religious education classes, help the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima navigate through homes in the parish, promote devotion to the Sacred Heart and reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and much more. 

    Realizing the necessity for a strong support of prayer, the Legion has Auxiliary members whose task is to daily pray 5 decades of the Rosary and the prayers of the Legion of Mary (the Tessera) for the intentions of the Blessed Mother and bolster the efforts of the active members. Each praesidium maintains its own roster of auxiliary members and appreciate that Auxiliaries are part of their daily spiritual battle in bringing souls to Jesus through Mary. There are currently two adult groups and one Junior group (7-18) at St. Anthony and one adult group at St. Elizabeth.

  • Little Flowers Girls’ Club® is a Catholic club for girls ages 5 and up that teaches virtues through scripture, saints’ biographies and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

    Based on the 1906 Catholic classic The Catholic Girls’ Guide by Fr. F.X. Lasance, and the spirituality of St. Thérése, the Little Flower of Liseux, this beautiful, authentically Catholic program, has delighted and instilled in our girls a love of our Catholic Faith for over 30 years.

    We meet monthly at St. Anthony’s Parish Center. Groups can start with Wreath I, but girls can join at anytime.  Like a scouting program, girls earn badges for the virtues they have practiced and life skills they have learned. But unlike most scouting organizations, the girls earn their badges through a distinctly Catholic lens. This Catholic to the Core program relies on the stories of the saints, Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Contact Erica Yancoskie, ericaotter@verizon.net.

  • The Mothers of Lu Playgroup is for the expectant moms and moms-of-littles (and of course the little ones themselves!) of our parish. Our playgroup is named in honor of a group of mothers who lived during the late 1800’s in Lu, Italy. These mothers prayed ferociously for vocations from their families, and their prayers were answered when over 300 of the children from their little town became priests and religious brothers and sisters! The schedule is emailed out once a month and the events/meetups are quite varied, but the overall goal of the group is to encourage and pray for vocations from our parish to the priesthood, religious life and for holy marriages for our children.

  • Have you greeted your Holy Guardian Angel today?  If not, why not take a moment to do so. While you’re talking to your spiritual best friend, why not ask him if you should look into Opus Angelorum (Work of the Holy Angels). OA is an ecclesial movement of the faithful that is approved by the Holy See. We collaborate with the Holy Angels to (1) increase our knowledge and love of God, (2) help build the Kingdom of God on earth, and (3) work for a strong, pure, and holy priesthood for the glory of God and the good of Holy Mother Church. OA spirituality focuses on Adoration, Contemplation, Expiation, and Mission under the direction of the Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross.     ~ Daily Mass Sodality 

    The essential requirement is that daily Mass be part of one’s life. There is no record keeping. The member does not have to go every single day. Rather, it means they tend to go to daily Mass often (when they can), with a certain regularity, deliberateness and out of true devotion.  

    ~ Eucharistic Adoration Sodality 

    The essential requirement is that one has integrated Eucharistic Adoration into one’s life. For membership in the Sodality one would be committed to keeping watch with Our Lord for at least a 30-minute period with a certain regularity and deliberateness, not necessarily weekly.

    ~ Sodality of the Holy Rosary

    The essential requirement is that one has integrated praying the Holy Rosary in church publicly and as a group into one’s life with a certain regularity and deliberateness. The frequency is up to the member.  

    ~ Auxiliary Membership of the Sodality of the Holy Rosary

    Unlike our Daily Mass Sodality and Eucharistic Adoration Sodality, it is possible to be an auxiliary member of the Sodality of the Holy Rosary. An auxiliary member is firmly committed to praying the Rosary daily, but not necessarily in church.

    No meetings are required.  The “meeting” is attending Mass, Holy Hour or praying the Rosary.  

    The member of any one of these Sodalities will be conscious of being a part of something bigger than one’s private devotion. By thus spiritually associating with others, more graces will be won for the member and for our parish.

  • Order of Christian Initiation for Adults 

    OCIA is for those interested in learning about Catholicism with an eye to conversion. Classes begin in September and culminate with full initiation at the Easter vigil Mass. You can contact the office at (804) 224-7221 to get on the list and meet with Fr. de Rosa, who will teach the class.

  • The St. Joseph, Terror of Demons Men’s Group is a parish men’s group focused on fraternity, mortification, and the enrichment of our Faith via study.  We meet every other Wednesday in St. Anthony’s Parish Center to share a meal and study scripture and Church documents. We have also made forays into the charitable realm, volunteering our resources and time to paint an apartment in Fredericksburg, VA being used to house women in crisis pregnancies. Occasionally the group will get together for purely fraternal reasons, such as a recent trip to Highmark Brewery for a team trivia night.  Our membership spans men of all ages and backgrounds. We are always accepting new members, and if you have been struggling to find a group of like-minded men with a solidly Catholic worldview, the St. Joseph, Terror of Demons Men’s group may be for you!  Contact Matt Juszczak, matthew_j31@yahoo.com.

  • Join the Well Read Mom book club! We meet one Monday a month at 7pm in St. Anthony’s Parish Center to discuss our monthly book. Our theme this year is “The Year of the Father.” Selections include: Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, The Aeneid by Virgil and Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell.   • All parish youth ages 12-17 are welcome in our Youth Group!  Some of our past activities have included attending live theater, going to the movies, game nights, movie nights at the church hall, bonfires, rosary making, roller skating, and diocesan events including WorkCamp, and more!

Serve the Community

  • St. Anthony’s food pantry distributes fresh produce and dry goods every Thursday at noon.  Today they serve an average of 40 families each week and the need is growing.  

    Last year over 5,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, bread, cereals, rice, pasta and much more was provided for our area with very little overhead.  

    It is our own parishioners that make the food pantry work on a weekly basis with their valuable time, talent and treasure. They also work in conjunction with occasional donations from Catholic Charities St. Lucy Project, CRS Rice Bowl and the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.  Volunteers and donations, monetary or goods, are always appreciated.

  • Meals to Moms serves the parish by coordinating meal trains for families. Most meals are delivered to families who have just welcomed a new baby, but we do help for other circumstances too! If you sign up to help with Meals to Moms, you will periodically receive an email letting you know that there is a need for meals.   • St. Elizabeth’s Charity (SEC) was founded in August 2023.  In our first year, we provided over $3,904.22 in financial assistance for things such as utility bills.  We also coordinated parish participation in the King George Social Services Angel Tree and Thanksgiving Dinner programs.  

    In addition to financial assistance, our volunteers have contributed over 200 hours to provide assistance to individuals who:

    • Are homebound and in need of caring visits

    • Need help with homelessness

    • Require rides to Sunday Mass and doctor appointments

    • Need deliveries from the parish food program
